2024 Honda Prologue Electric SUV

December 22nd, 2022 by

The introduction of the 2024 Honda Prologue is welcome news for Honda fans who are planning to switch to electric vehicles (EVs). This model will be the Japanese automaker’s second entry into the American EV market, the first being the Clarity sedan. It’s expected to slot above the CR-V in the Honda lineup due to its larger size. Although it hasn’t revealed any technical specifications, Honda has released official images that give us an idea of the SUV’s overall dimensions, exterior styling, and interior appointments. Check out this guide to find out more about the upcoming Honda Prologue.

Exterior

According to Honda, the Prologue is 8 inches longer and 5 inches wider than the CR-V and has a wheelbase that’s nearly a foot longer than the three-row Pilot. The electric SUV boasts a low, long, and wide silhouette, and it looks athletic with its rising beltline, tapering roof, and raked rear window. It features a handsome, modern design with clean lines and some stylish features.

Up front, the Prologue wears a wide but narrow black grille with slim, horizontal LED headlamps flanking it. Below the grille, a lower bumper with a large intake and an indentation in the bodywork adds a rugged touch. Black cladding surrounds the lower bumper areas, wheel arches, and side skirts, while short overhangs give the SUV a sporty stance. Around the back, wraparound taillights are seamlessly integrated into a black panel for a sleek look. The panel bears the Honda name in futuristic font rather than the classic H badge.

Driving Range

While Honda hasn’t provided any information about the 2024 Prologue’s battery, range, or charging times, we can get some clues by looking at the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. This is because the Prologue is a product of a joint development agreement between Honda and General Motors. It’s built on the latter’s new EV platform and uses versions of the Ultium batteries that will power the American automaker’s forthcoming EV models, including the Blazer EV. If the specifications of the Chevy SUV are any indication, you can expect the Prologue to deliver a maximum driving range of 250 to 320 miles.

When it comes to charging, the platform mate of the Prologue comes with an onboard 11.5 kW AC charger for powering up at home, and it supports a DC fast-charging capacity of up to 190 kW. Depending on the model and charger, the EV can recharge for up to 87 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It isn’t surprising to see the Honda SUV post similar figures. Another thing we know is that the Prologue will offer a choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Interior

On the inside, the Prologue features one of the most refined cabins among Honda vehicles, even though it shares many similarities with its siblings. It has familiar design elements such as a streamlined dashboard, an upright tablet-style infotainment screen, and a clutter-free center console. However, it doesn’t have the honeycomb trim typically found in other Honda models, such as the Civic and CR-V.

The Prologue’s low dashboard and large windshield contribute to an airy, open cockpit and excellent outward visibility. With a longer wheelbase than the Honda Pilot and only two rows of seats, this SUV will likely provide a generous amount of passenger and cargo space. From the images, it looks like even the rear passengers will get plenty of headroom and legroom. You can opt for the available panoramic glass roof to make your road trips more fun and exciting.

Infotainment Features

At the center of the Honda Prologue’s dashboard stands an 11.3-inch touch-screen infotainment display. This display is smaller than that of the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV, but it’s significantly larger than anything you can find in a 2022 Honda vehicle. The system may run the latest version of Honda’s software interface or a revamped version of General Motor’s infotainment interface. In either case, you can expect the SUV to offer a long list of standard and available tech features, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless device charging pad, and navigation.

The photos also show an 11-inch digital instrument cluster that’s likely to be standard and a Bose audio system with tweeter speakers in the A-pillars. However, the base trim will probably come with a non-branded sound system and fewer speakers.

Trim Levels and Prices

Information about the trim levels and prices of the 2024 Honda Prologue is still unavailable. However, Honda may offer its traditional trim lineup on this model, which consists of the LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. Until the exact specifications and features are revealed, it’s too early to tell which trim represents the best value.

As for pricing, experts expect the Prologue to have a base manufacturer’s suggested retail price that’s well below $50,000. To remain competitive in the increasingly crowded electric SUV segment, the SUV may start at around $45,000. The range-topping trim will probably have a minimum price of $55,000.

Warranty and Complimentary Maintenance

The 2024 Prologue will most likely come with the same factory warranty that’s currently standard on all new Honda models. This warranty is similar to those of electric SUVs from other major automakers. It comprises a limited warranty that lasts for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty that’s good for five years or 60,000 miles. Also, the Prologue’s coverage package should include complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.

The 2024 Honda Prologue is set to arrive at dealerships across the United States in spring 2024. It’s expected to make a splash in the EV market, so you don’t want to miss out on it.
