Fall Fest Weekend

The Norwood Recreation Department proudly presents the third yearly Fall Fest Weekend, a four-day series of events to usher in the Halloween season. The weekend will feature the 11th annual trunk-or-treat event. This time around, the event is a bit different. Rather than receive candy at every trunk, families will receive a goody bag of treats after they tour the vehicles.

The other events during Fall Fest Weekend will be:

• Halloween Hop.
• Halloween Spooktacular Launch Night.
• Block Party.
• Pickleball Tournament.
• Pumpkin Float.

Location: The trunk-or-treat portion of the Norwood Fall Fest Weekend will take place in the Norwood DPW parking lot. The other events, respectively, will be at Ivatt’s Tennis Courts, Launch Norwood, Father Mac’s, the Savage Center Pickleball Courts, and Hawes.

Date and Time: Fall Fest Weekend lasts from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9. The trunk-or-treat event will be on Oct. 8, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at noon.

FALL FESTIVAL!! Tasty Tricks & Treats!

Norwood wellness studio Karuna: Nutrition + Movement plans to host a hands-on event called FALL FESTIVAL!! Tasty Tricks & Treats! Guests of all ages are welcome to enroll in this one-day class in which they will cook up a variety of Halloween eats.

You may register for the program online. The cost of the class is $35. The establishment recommends children under the age of 5 to be accompanied by a caregiver.

Location: Find Karuna: Nutrition + Movement at 100 Morse St., Suite 212, here in Norwood, Massachusetts.

Date and Time: The event takes place on Sunday, Oct. 9. It’s a two-hour class that starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

Trunk or Treat in Stoughton

The Old Colony YMCA in nearby Stoughton, just about 8 miles southeast of Norton, will be hosting a trunk-or-treat event shortly before Halloween day. The idea is to give the community children all the usual fun of the holiday in a contained, controlled environment. Rather than go from house to house, trick-or-treaters go from vehicle to vehicle in the YMCA parking lot. The cargo areas of the vehicles hold the candy, which the vehicle owners distribute. Volunteers are welcome to decorate their vehicles and pass out the treats.

The event is free for members of the Stoughton Old Colony YMCA. The cost for non-members is $5.

Location: The Stoughton branch of the Old Colony YMCA is at 445 Central St. in Stoughton, Massachusetts.

Date and Time: The trunk-or-treat event at Stoughton Old Colony YMCA takes place on Oct. 28. The event starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. Volunteers should come as early as 4 p.m. to start setting up.

Weymouth 400 Trunk or Treat 2022

Another nearby city, Weymouth, approximately 18 miles east of Norwood, will host its own trunk-or-treat event: Weymouth 400 Trunk or Treat 2022. What sets this event apart is that the trunks in question belong prohibitively to the show cars from the Spindles Auto Club. Both children and adults are encouraged to dress up and scoop up the treats from the trunks of these classic vehicles. There’ll be more than candy on hand, too, as the event will feature food trucks and music.

This event is entirely free to the public.

Location: The event will take place at Weymouth High School, 1 Wildcat Way in Weymouth, Massachusetts.

Date and Time: The Weymouth trunk-or-treat event takes place earlier, on Oct. 22. The event starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.

Ghosts & Gravestones

To set the mood for your trick-or-treating trek, consider heading northeast to our state’s capital for Ghosts & Gravestones of Boston, a tour of the city’s spooky past. Led by undead guides on the Trolley of Terror, you’ll learn about the myriad horrors that characterize Boston’s history, including the crimes of the Boston Strangler, the haunting of the Omni Parker House, and the eerie details of the Parkman–Webster case.

Though the experience may be frightening for those under the age of 13, the content of the tour is richer in history than in scares. The seats are limited and tend to fill quickly, so get your tickets as soon as possible. Admission is $46.20 for adults and $38.85 for children aged 6 to 12. Children under the age of 6 are not permitted.

Location: Find the Ghosts & Gravestones tour board beside the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel on 200 Atlantic Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts.

Date and Time: Tours take place nightly at 6 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.
