Best Races and Marathons to be a Part of Near Norwood, MA

Ice Cream 5K

The Ice Cream 5K is a great way to welcome in summer with the whole family. For those with young kids, there are actually two events to choose from. The 5K, which runs along the scenic Westover Parkway to loop around Westover park, gives athletes an opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sections of Norwood. There’s also a 1-mile race, perfect for those wanting to get out with the whole family and young kids.

All participants receive a free ice cream cone, and those who are early to sign up can also get a race T-shirt. With cash prizes available for the top three male and female winners, there’s a lot to look forward to with this race. The 5K race costs $25 for those who sign up online before the deadline, and $30 for those who join on race day. Kids and family members can take part in the 1-mile run for less. This year’s event is on June 18.

Saint Catherine of Sienna School 5k

Earlier this summer is the Saint Catherine of Sienna School 5K. The cost is $30 for adults, but you can get a discount if you sign up with your whole family. They even offer a same-day kiddie race for preschoolers for second graders so they can join in on the fun. The race is run or walk friendly, and is a great way to take part in a 5k without the competition or pressure.

The first one hundred registrants can get a free T-shirt, so sign up soon. You can also register on race day, May 21, where additional T-shirts are available for purchase. The event’s location is 249 Nahatan St. in Norwood.

Casey’s 5K

Later this year, on or around October 1, is another 5K event called Casey’s 5K. This challenging 5K course offers cash prizes to the top three finishers in both the male and female category. They have prizes available for the various age groups, too. Norwood Turkey Trot

A list of local races would feel incomplete without mention of the Norwood Turkey Trot. Held this coming fall on November 19, this event offers runners and families an extra opportunity to celebrate the holiday actively. The race has been an important part of community festivities for over 30 years. It’s a 4-mile long race. Participants in the other races on this list might be familiar with the trail. It runs along Westover Parkway, bordering the Westover Park. As one of the most scenic routes in Norwood, it’s a loop you’ll never tire of running.

Napper Tandy’s Flyer

This August, come run and enjoy great food at the Napper Tandy’s Flyer run. This 4-mile run features cash prizes for top finalists. Age group winners can also win pint glasses. This is an event that’s great for both food lovers and running enthusiasts alike. Stick around after the race for a great food spread from Napper Tandy’s Pub. Their post-race party is a fun event for all to enjoy. Runners over the age of 21 can also enjoy a free beer from the Pub. The event starts at 6:45 p.m. on August 18.

GOFIDOG 5k

In nearby Walpole, there’s a race worth traveling to. Golden Opportunities for Independence (GOFI) is an organization dedicated to training golden retrievers to help those with disabilities gain independence. Their annual race is a great opportunity to give back to the community and support a noble cause. There are two events available, the 5K and a 1-mile doggy walk. Their event is at the Fisher School in Walpole on May 21. It starts at 9 a.m.

Beantown Marathon

Those wanting to challenge themselves on a longer run may have to look outside of Norwood. The Beantown Marathon on September 11 is a great way to stretch your legs on a much longer course. The 26.2-mile run is located in the city of Hingham, Massachusetts, in Plymouth County. For those interested in qualifying for the famous Boston Marathon, the Beantown Marathon is the year’s last opportunity to do so.

Runners loop a closed course six times to complete this race and it has many benefits for elite athletes wanting a professional-style marathon setting.
