Summer is a time to take a breath, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy yourself. If you’re in Norwood, Massachusetts, there are a bounty of opportunities to soak up the sunshine this season. Read on to explore the fairs, events, shows, Fourth of July parties, and other festivities you can attend in or near this charming city.
Pepperell Parade and Fireworks
Pepperell Fourth is a non-profit organization with a mission of hosting fun, family-friendly Independence Day celebrations for people in and near the town of Pepperell, Massachusetts. This town is about an hour and a half from Norwood. A dedicated group of volunteers works year-round to host fundraiser events like the Holiday Light Fight in December, the Patriot Ride in May, an Auction in the fall and spring, and Fall Fest. For your Fourth of July in 2022, consider attending the Pepperell Independence Day Parade and the Pepperell Fireworks celebration.
The parade will be held on June 25, 2022, at 10 a.m. The procession will be on Main Street from Town Hall to Railroad Square. In the evening from 6 to 10 p.m., there will be music, dinner, snacks and games. At dusk, the fireworks will start. Arrive early to get a seat on the field behind Varnum Brook Elementary School. Independence Day Celebration
Every year, the city of Norwood holds an Independence Day Celebration. While information isn’t out yet on the exact dates and times of this event, you can check the Norwood government website for up-to-date information. Last year, this event took place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, so you can expect the event in 2022 to occur on a Saturday close to July 4.
The main event of the day is Norwood’s Fourth of July Parade Spectacular. This procession usually follows a route from the Coakley Middle School, down Washington Street, all the way to the Town Hall. In the lively parade, you’ll see national and international marching bands, creative floats, and a bunch of entertaining acts.
Before the parade, you can also participate in Norwood’s Firecracker 5K Road Race. Other events include the Children’s Parade and the Carillon Concert. The Old Parish Preservation Volunteers may sponsor a special historical event. In 2021, there was a public reading of Frederick Douglass’s July 5, 1852 speech.
A Different Drummer Craft Event
Located at the Drummer Boy Park in Brewster, Massachusetts, A Different Drummer Craft Event is a beloved arts and crafts tradition in the Cape Cod area. This green, grassy venue comes with a gorgeous ocean view, gazebo, playground, a historic windmill, and historic buildings. At this fair, you can peruse artisan vendors selling prints, jewelry, decor, and more handmade crafts.
In 2022, there will be three arts and craft events at Drummer Boy Park. The address of this park is 773 Old Kings Highway, about an hour and a half drive from Norwood. It’s off Route 6A, one of the most traveled roads in Cape Cod. Here are the dates for the three events:
- Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17.
- Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-7.
- Saturday and Sunday, Sept.10-11.

Gloucester Waterfront Festival
Sponsored by Castleberry Fairs and Festivals, the 41st annual Gloucester Waterfront Festival is happening in 2022. At this festival, you can find artisans, artists, food vendors, and musicians. Sample gourmet treats like herbal dips, baked nuts, fudge, nut butter, olive oils, honey, jams, and kale snacks. You can also dine on meals like hot dogs, sausage, fresh veggie wraps, french fries, burritos, chicken tenders, hamburgers, and more. Pair your meal with a dessert, like Italian ice, fried Oreos, funnel cake, or kettle corn.
You’ll find countless arts and craft vendors here. Shop goods and decor like:

Admission is free, and friendly leashed pets are welcome. Keep in mind that there is a fee to park at beach parking. The Bolton Fair
The 139th annual Bolton Fair is a quintessential New England fair, complete with rides, games, educational experiences, and entertainment for the whole family. Things to do and see include demolition derbies, magic and hypnosis shows, a petting farm, an exhibit hall, and a reptile show.
The Bolton Fair is happening Aug. 12-14 in 2022. There will also be a preview of Midway, the main carnival area, on Aug. 12. Here are the dates and times of this festival:
- Thursday, Aug. 11: Midway will be open from 5 to 10 p.m.
- Friday, Aug. 12: The fair will be open from noon to 9 p.m. and Midway will open at noon.
- Saturday, Aug. 13: The fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Midway will open at noon.
- Sunday, Aug. 14: The fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Midway will open at noon.
